Do’s and Don’ts for Successful Nu Smile Aligner Treatment

Clear aligner treatment is one of the most popular orthodontic methods because it is discreet, convenient, and effective. However, in order for your treatment to be successful, you need to put in a little work. Adhering to some basic do’s and don’ts throughout your time with Nu Smile Aligners will reduce the risk of delays and other mishaps. Here are some tips to help you enjoy a smooth and stress-free experience:

Do Keep Your Aligners Clean

It should be your habit to rinse your aligners following each meal, right before you put them back in your mouth. It is also important that you thoroughly clean them each night. Soak them in a cleansing solution for 15 – 20 minutes before thoroughly rinsing them. Additionally, you should carefully brush them at least once each day with clear, mild soap.

Do Brush and Floss Regularly

Your teeth should be clean before you place your aligners on them. That means it should be your goal to brush and floss after each meal, in addition to your normal morning and nighttime oral hygiene routine. It would be wise to carry a small oral hygiene kit with you so you can keep your teeth clean when you are away from home.

Do Wear Your Aligners Enough

Nu Smile Aligners are designed to be worn for 20 – 22 hours each day. Continually taking them in and out of your mouth could cut into your total wear time and delay your final results. You should only remove them when you eat and when you attend to oral hygiene.

Do Not Eat and Drink While Wearing Your Aligners

It is perfectly acceptable to sip on plain water while your aligners are in your mouth. However, you should not consume anything else. Hot beverages could warp your aligners, while pigmented items can quickly cause discoloration. Chewing while wearing your Nu Smile Aligners could warp them and cause them to become unusable.

Do Not Lose Track of Your Aligners

Whenever you remove your aligners, place them in a secure location, such as in a designated storage case. Wrapping them in a napkin while you eat might cause you to accidentally discard them, while leaving them in the open can allow them to be carried away by a curious pet or small child.

Do Not Smoke

Cigarettes are harmful for oral health in general, but their impact is even greater for people undergoing clear aligner treatment. The nicotine and tar could quickly stain the aligners and cause them to take on an unpleasant taste and odor.

Nu Smile Aligners will make it necessary for you to adjust some of your habits, but overall, you should expect an easy treatment experience!
